Mental Health and Wellbeing
At Alkrington Primary, we are committed to supporting the wellbeing of all our pupils. If you have any concerns about your child's mental health and emotional wellbeing, in the first instance, please speak to your child's class teacher, who may refer your concern on to the school's Mental Health Leads - Mrs McDonald (Whole School), Mrs Harris (EYFS/KS1) and Miss Carter (KS2). They will be more than happy to discuss your concerns and to signpost you to further support and services.
As a school, we encourage the '10 a day approach' to health and wellbeing. This involves considering 10 ways in which we can help to balance our physical and mental health. This approach is complemented and reinforced through the delivery of our PSHE curriculum, which regularly addresses a range of ways to promote and maintain a positive mind and body.
For those children whose needs may not be being met through whole class activities, we have a range of in-house, small group wellbeing interventions delivered by various members of our team, including Circus Skills, Talk About, Theory of Mind, Lego Therapy, sewing and Wellbeing Dominoes, to name but a few.
In addition to this, the school is part of the Mental Health Support Teams Project and has access to an onsite Mental Health Practitioner, one day a week. If you feel that your child may benefit from this type of support, please contact Mrs McDonald to discuss a referral by emailing gmcdonald@alkrington.rochdale.sch.uk .
Celebrating Our Enhanced Healthy Schools Award 2024!
We are thrilled to announce that our school has been awarded the Enhanced Healthy Schools Award in recognition of our outstanding commitment to supporting mental health and wellbeing for pupils, parents, and staff.
The award reflects our dedication to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and supported. Over the past year, we have introduced a range of initiatives, from wellbeing workshops and mindfulness activities to staff training and family support programs, all aimed at fostering a community that prioritizes emotional health and resilience.
We are incredibly proud of our entire school community for embracing these efforts and working together to make mental health and wellbeing a cornerstone of our values. This award is a testament to the positive impact we can achieve when we care for each other.
Thank you to our pupils, families, and staff for their continued commitment and passion. Together, we are building a healthier, happier future for all.
